McQuarrie’s paintings were published in portfolios that are well known to Star Wars collectors. McQuarrie was one of Lucas’s first collaborators on Star Wars and created numerous concept sketches and production paintings that were used to convey Lucas’s vision to those working on the film, and later used to market it. McQuarrie is widely considered one of the seminal Star Wars artists, having designed the look of Darth Vader, C-3PO, R2-D2, and countless other elements of the original film.
